Lip blush is semi-permanent lip color that adds tone, definition, and a natural “your lips but better” tint, no lipstick required. Here’s what it actually involves.

What it actually does

Lip blush adds pigment to give lips more even color, more defined edges, and a subtle flush. Think “healthy after a walk in cold air,” not a bold lipstick look, though depth can be customized. It also helps correct uneven pigmentation or asymmetry in lip shape.

The appointment itself

Numbing cream is applied before and during the session, so most clients describe it as uncomfortable rather than outright painful, more of a vibration or scratching sensation than sharp pain. Sessions typically run 2-3 hours including consultation, numbing, and the actual procedure.

The healing timeline, this is the part people aren’t ready for:

Days 1-3: Lips will look noticeably darker or brighter than the final result and may feel swollen or tender. Normal and temporary.

Days 3-6: Peeling and flaking begins. Do not pick at it, no matter how tempting.

Days 7-10: Color looks patchy or lighter than expected as the top layer finishes shedding, this is the “ugly duckling” phase and it’s completely normal, not a sign anything went wrong.

Weeks 4-6: True healed color settles in, and this is when a touch-up session (usually recommended and often included) fine-tunes the final result.

Aftercare basics

Keep lips moist with the ointment provided, avoid spicy food and excessive talking or wide mouth movements for the first few days, skip sun exposure without lip-safe SPF once healed, and don’t pick at any peeling, full stop.

Who should hold off

If you’re prone to cold sores, a preventive antiviral beforehand is often recommended, so talk to your doctor and your artist before booking. Certain skin conditions and some medications can also affect candidacy, which is exactly why we do a real consultation instead of just booking anyone who calls.

Cost varies by what your lips need (color correction takes more work than a simple tint), so a consult gets you a real number instead of a guess.
